Cut thatch grass and mend forest paths in a Kawasaki satoyama, with an overnight stay
IllustrationWhat you will do
In the Okagami satoyama woodland in Kawasaki, you join a local conservation group and NICE, a Japanese organization that runs international workcamps, for a weekend of hands-on work. Choose one group: cutting grass for thatched-roof repairs, mending the forest path steps, or building play equipment such as swings. In the evening you share a taro stew dinner, and you can stay overnight to join again the next morning. The organizer says English support is available and that participants come from across Japan and around the world.
