Explore Sendai, Matsushima and Shiogama with a volunteer English-speaking guide
IllustrationWhat you will do
GOZAIN is a group of volunteer guides in Sendai who show visitors around in English. Their model courses cover Sendai's historic sites (Zuihoden, the Sendai Castle ruins and Osaki Hachimangu Shrine); Matsushima, with Zuiganji Temple, Entsuin and a cruise around the bay; the coastal sites that pass on the memory of the 2011 earthquake and tsunami, such as the former Arahama Elementary School; a walk through Sendai's shopping arcades, side streets and Jozenji-dori; and Shiogama Shrine with the old town at its gate. You can also ask them to plan a route with you.
