Kanayama, once a post town on the old Hida Kaido road, still has a maze of narrow back alleys known as "kinkotsu." Guides from the Kinkotsu Guide Group, most of whom live along the old road, walk you through the alleys and the Showa-era shopping street. Tours in English are available.
